Volunteer Opportunities at Lakeview Health Center

Here are some examples of services that our volunteers provide to our residents:

  • Cooking groups

  • Exercise groups

  • Visiting and socializing

  • Gardening (indoors and outdoors)

  • Music programs

  • Sing-a-longs

  • Playing cards and table games

  • Reading to or with individuals/groups

  • Sewing and crafts

  • Taking walks (indoors and outdoors)

  • Writing letters

  • Helping with special entertainment events

  • Educational groups

  • Helping with community outings and day trips—shopping, dining out, sports events, local festivals and fairs, museums, casino trips, fishing, bowling, movies, picnics, bus rides, boat trips, and going to rummage sales are a few examples of fun opportunities for you to share with our residents

  • Decorating for holidays or special events

  • Helping with special groups such as leisure skills, independent life skills

  • Bible study groups

  • Pet visits

  • Ice cream socials

  • Campfires

Lakeview Health Center Auxiliary

This group is considered a special group of volunteers who serve Lakeview residents by fundraising activities, sponsoring social functions and outings, and supporting the mission of Lakeview.  The group consists of community members, and past/present Lakeview employees.  The Auxiliary is always looking for new members!

Internship Opportunities

Lakeview partners with local colleges and universities in offering a variety of internship experiences in our Activity (Recreation), Administration, Dietary, Health Information, and Nursing Departments.  If you would like more information about the following internships, please call 608-786-1400.

Activity (Recreation) Internship

      The Activity Department offers an opportunity for students in a Therapeutic Recreation program to gain experience working with a diverse group of people.  Students gain hands-on experience providing activity programs and functioning as an interdisciplinary team member.

Administration Internship

      Lakeview contracts with the college or university to provide experience in health care administration.  Students work with the Administrator and learn all facets of administering a long term care facility.

Dietary Internship

      The Dietary Department offers a supervised clinical experience for Dietetics students from 

Viterbo University.  Students gain experience in food service concepts, clinical nutrition by working closely with our Registered Dietician, Certified Dietary Manager, Lakeview staff and residents.

Health Information Internship

      Students from the Health Unit Coordinator and Health Information Technician programs at Western Wisconsin Technical College (WWTC) gain experience in learning and applying recordkeeping responsibilities of Health Information professionals.

Nursing Internship

      Students from WWTC may complete their final clinical or “transition” experience at Lakeview.  They are partnered with an experienced RN for four weeks on the day and evening shifts, and will enhance skills in:

  • Communicating with residents, team members and families

  • Providing hands-on nursing care

  • Documentation and developing care plans

  • Organizing tasks and setting priorities

  • Assessing physical and mental health needs

  • Administering medications

  • Supervising employees
