Carroll Heights is a senior housing
complex for those 55 years of age or older which is owned and operated
by La Crosse County. There are 58 one and two bedroom units in a variety
of floor plans.
A senior housing complex is a style of life. It's more than an apartment

maximize your opportunities and independence. It's a community
surrounding you with caring people from staff to other tenants who
participate in the nutrition program, socialize, or challenge one
another in a game. It's living in a safe and secure environment. It's
knowing that you are a part of a caring community that is able to provide services needed to make
your life comfortable and independent. It is a lifestyle of being set
free from the responsibilities of maintaining a house. It is a lifestyle
that frees you from the fears of loneliness, or having an accident while
home alone.
Carroll Heights is located on a large campus near the bluffs adjacent to
Hillview Health Care
Center, (a 199 bed skilled nursing home) with plenty of outdoor
space including walking paths. The apartments include tub with shower,
electric range, frost-free refrigerator, mini-blinds, individual
heat/air conditioning controls and an entry system for security. There
are carports with electric outlets and additional parking for tenants
and visitors. For those who like to garden, there are a number of garden
plots available. Another popular plus is the Guest Suite for visitors of
both Carroll Heights and Hillview. Carroll Heights has a connecting
doorway to Hillview Health Care Center to provide easy access to church
services, special activities and the beauty/barber shop. This has been
particularly helpful for those who have spouse at Hillview and do not
drive. Transportation is available as there is a city bus stop directly
in front of the building. There are charter buses which provide
transportation for grocery shopping and the County Mini-Bus system is
available for clinic or special appointments.
Carroll Heights is also a
County
Nutrition Site which provides a noon meal on a donation basis Monday
through Friday. A Wellness Clinic is open and available to tenants and
community each Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The County
Home Health nurses provide blood pressure screening, counseling and foot
clinics on a regular basis. Flu shots and pneumonia immunizations are
available each fall. Wellness Wednesday programs include monthly
presentations on topics of interest to seniors such as advance
directives, etc.
